Library Shelving

Shelving that holds more books and invites browsing.

Steel-frame bookshelves for reading rooms, reference libraries and school collections. Double-sided or single-sided bays, wood-grain or powder-coat finishes, and shelf pitch that adjusts in 25 mm steps — so the shelves follow the collection, never the other way round.

The System

Open access, built to be reconfigured.

Library shelving works harder than almost any furniture in the building — browsed all day, rearranged every term. Our bays are engineered for exactly that life.

  • Single-sided wall bays and double-sided island bays on one frame system
  • Steel uprights with wood-grain or colour powder-coat finishes
  • Shelves adjust in 25 mm steps for folios, magazines and picture books
  • Canopy tops, end panels and shelf dividers as options
  • Bays link in runs and expand module by module as collections grow

Capacity

How many books fit? Here is the maths.

Counts assume standard hardbacks at 40 mm average spine width on a 900 mm shelf. Multiply bays by shelf levels to size a room in minutes.

Bay configuration Shelf levels Books per bay Typical use
Single-sided, 900 mm wide, 2.0 m 5 ~400 Wall lines in reading rooms
Double-sided, 900 mm wide, 2.0 m 10 ~800 Island rows on the open floor
Double-sided, 900 mm wide, 2.2 m 14 (7 per side) ~1,100 Stack rooms and back collections
Magazine display, 900 mm wide 4 tilted ~120 Periodicals and new arrivals
Two Rooms, Two Characters

Reading rooms and children’s floors.

Public areas need warmth and sightlines; school floors need toughness and safe edges. Same frame, different specification.

Wood-grain shelving in a warm reading room
Reading rooms Wood-grain finishes, lower 1.4 m heights for sightlines across the room, and display shelving for new arrivals face-out.

White shelving in a children library corner
Schools & children Rounded canopy tops, wipe-clean powder coat, and shallow bins at child height so even picture books sit face-out.

Built For Daily Use

Quiet, stable and safe in public hands.

A library floor is a public space first. Everything about the bay is engineered to disappear into the reading experience.

  • Levelling feet and floor fixings keep bays plumb on uneven floors
  • Anti-tip brackets standard on every wall line
  • Powder-coated steel wipes clean and resists scuffs from trolleys
  • Shelves front-lipped to stop books sliding in busy aisles
